Abstract

Laparotomy is a major surgical procedure by incisions in the layers of the abdominal wall tofind the problematic part of the abdominal organs (hemorrhage, perforation, cancer, andobstruction). Anxiety is a term that describes a characteristic disorder in the form of fear,concernforthefuture,prolongedworry,andnervousness.PatientswithanxietyaboutgoingtosurgeryrequireBensonRelaxationtherapy.Thiscasestudyaimedtoascertainthedescription of nursing care in pre-laparotomy patients in meeting the needs of safety andcomfort. The type of research was descriptive with a case study approach. It took a scheduledrespondent for surgery and was selected according to the characteristics of the researchrespondents in the Mawar room. The nursing care management in pre-laparotomy patients inmeeting the needs of safety and comfort with nursing actions of Bensonrelaxation therapyfor three days resulted in a decrease of anxiety levels from moderate anxiety (HamiltonAnxiety Rating Scale score 25) to mild anxiety (Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale score 15). ItrecommendsthatBenson Relaxationiseffectiveinprelaparotomypatientstoreduce anxiety.
