Abstract

Early detection of breast cancer is aimed at diagnosing breast cancer earlier, thereby reducing morbidity and mortality. Breast cancer detection can be done by early detection and screening. Early detection can be done using BSE (Breast Self-Examination), mammography and clinical breast examination. Increasing adolescent knowledge about BSE as early as possible can have a good influence on adolescents so that they become adult women later. One of the efforts that can be made to increase the knowledge of adolescents in performing BSE is to provide health education. The use of video media in learning activities is not only as a tool, but as a carrier of information or messages to be conveyed. The use of videos about BSE can clarify an abstract picture of the importance of self-breast examination, because in the process of administering it the respondent not only hears the material being delivered, but also sees directly and clearly the steps to be aware of through the video.
The research design was a one group pre test post test with control group design. The researcher divided the two groups into the experimental group and the control group. Selection of the sample with proportionate stratified random sampling, namely as many as 150 respondents. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon test. The results of the study show that there are differences in the effect of video media and lecture methods on knowledge about early detection of breast cancer in young women at SMA Negeri 01 Banjar Agung. Video media with a p value of 0.000 and lecture method with a p value of 0.001. The school should increase knowledge about early detection of breast cancer, work together with health workers so that all students are aware of health, especially about breast self-examination.
