THE INFLUENCE OF VIRTUAL REALITY ON REDUCING ANXIETY IN CHILDREN'S HOSPITALIZATION WITH FEBRIS IN NAKULA 2, PUSAT GENERAL HOSPITAL, SURAKARTA

Abstract

One of the complaints that is the main problem in children who are hospitalized is fever. Febris is the body's natural process to fight infections that enter the body when the temperature rises above normal body temperature (> 37.5°C) (Zahara, et., al 2023). Children who experience pain will experience hospitalization anxiety (Saribu, et., al 2021). According to WHO in 2018 it said that 3-10% of children treated in the United States experienced stress during hospitalization, 3-7% of children treated in hospitals in Germany also experienced stress during hospitalization. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for 2018 the number of hospitalizations or hospitalizations for children in Indonesia increased by 13% compared to 2017 and for the Central Java region of approximately 4.74% in the past year (Central Statistics Agency, 2018). The impact of hospitalization for children can be in the form of anxiety. Hospitalization anxiety for children can make it difficult for children to eat, uneasy, afraid, anxious, anxious, unwilling to cooperate in medical procedures so that it interferes with the child's healing process, (Lestariningsih, 2022). Anxiety can be overcome with non-pharmacological therapy, one technique with Virtual Reality. The purpose of this case study was to determine the effect of Virtual Reality on the anxiety of hospitalization of children with fever at Surakarta General Hospital.
This case study used 1 subject who was examined before and after the administration of the Virtual Reality intervention which was carried out for 2 days. The anxiety scale was measured before and after giving the intervention which was recorded on the HAMILTON RATING SCALE FOR ANXIETY (HARS) observation sheet.
The results of this case study showed that the pain scale before the intervention was 24, which means moderate anxiety and the anxiety score after the intervention was 18, which means mild anxiety. So it can be concluded that there is an effect of Virtual Reality on the level of hospitalization anxiety in children with fever at Surakarta General Hospital.
