ABSTRACT
Pregnancy is a physiological process that ensues continuously, starting from ovulation, conception, nidation, and development of the embryo in the uterus until antepartum. Transformations in pregnant women can cause discomfort during pregnancy. Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), characterized by severe nausea and vomiting, remains a challenging complication of pregnancy due to difficulties in effective management. The management of emesis gravidarum can be accomplished through pharmacological or non-pharmacological treatment, despite many pregnant women preferring nonpharmacological treatment. Acupressure therapy is one of the non-pharmacological therapies that involves massage on specific meridian points associated with organs in the body to manage nausea and vomiting. The results of preliminary studies through the interview method conducted by researchers of first-trimester pregnant women at PMB Andriana SST revealed that based on ten (10) first-trimester pregnant women, nine (9) mothers experienced nausea and vomiting.
The research employed pre-experimental with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The population consisted of all 30 first-trimester pregnant women in July - September 2023 at PMB Andriana SST Tulang Bawang. The sample utilized the total sampling method with 30 respondents. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test. The results demonstrated a significant effect of pericardium point massage on emesis gravidarum in first-trimester pregnant women at PMB Andriana SST Tulang Bawang with a p-value of 0.000. The study suggests that pericardium point massage therapy represents a feasible option for pregnant women experiencing nausea and vomiting, offering a mechanism to manage symptoms effectively at home and potentially prevent complications.
